Week 4

G'day all
I guess there is no need to tell you what these are images of! The spider on the left is the Sydney Funnel Web spider and the other i,s of course, the Redback spider. It was one of these spiders that Mandy spoke about the other day when we visited Rosemarie's class. Mandy was one lucky lady for sure!

Well done to all of you who added a piece of advice to those who wish to improve their English outside the classroom! I hope you follow the advice given!

Most of you are keeping up with the class work set each Monday but there are others who still have things to finish. It is important not to fall too far behind!
Today as you know is International Women's Day. Can you do a search and find out when the event was first celebrated? How is the event celebrated in your country? Write your answers by leaving me a comment at the end of this post!
In class we have been looking at casual conversation and recounts. Have a listen to these teachers having a conversation and answer the questions on the worksheet. (Follow the link to find it and print it!)

I think that should keep you busy for a while! If you finish, see me and I'll suggest something else for you to do!

Happy blogging!

The very first International Women's Day was launched the following year by Clara Zetkin on 19 March (not 8 March). The date was chosen because on 19 March in the year of the 1848 revolution, the Prussian king recognized for the first time the strength of the armed people and gave way before the threat of a proletarian uprising. Among the many promise he made, which he later failed to keep, was the introduction of votes for women.

International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, IWD is a national holiday. The first IWD was run in 1911.

International Women's Day, was first declared in the 1900s.In my opinion International Women's Day should make the women of past and also the future be proud of themselves. Women now are equal to men. They can do everything for example: have big roles inorganisations, governments and the media all around the world. In my country (Lebanon)we celebrate Women's day by getting a day off and some womens celebrate by sending presents to each other ....

The first IWD was observed on 19 March 1911 in Germany following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.
In 1910 the first international women's conference was held in Copenhagen.
The day is an official holiday in Afghanistan,Armenia and some other countries.
On this day it is customary for men to give the women in their lives - mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc - flowers and small gifts. In some countries (such as Romania) it is also observed as an equivalent of Mother's Day, where children also give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.
